Obama transportation transition team in place

President-elect Barack Obama President-elect Barack Obama

President-elect Barack Obama’s Department of Transportation transition team will be developing policy documents and information on positions of interest to the new administration, which will be important as selections are made for secretary of the departments of transportation and homeland security and for FAA administrator. AOPA will keep you up to date on the transition and what the key cabinet selections mean to GA.

Members of the transition team include Mortimer Downey, a self-employed transportation consultant, Jane Garvey, former FAA administrator, Michael Huerta, group president of ACS Transportation Solutions, John Cullather, former member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and Carol Carmody, a consultant in international aviation and aviation safety.

Downey will serve as the leader for the Department of Transportation review team, while Cullather will head the federal maritime commission review team, and Carmody the NTSB review team.

Garvey has a long working relationship with AOPA from her time as FAA administrator under the Clinton Administration. Garvey served as a panelist during AOPA Expo’s opening general session on Nov. 6, where she said the association had a great opportunity to educate new members of Congress.
