AOPA provides link for member input on weather data gathering research
AOPA is providing a direct link for member input on a NASA research project that could help improve GA weather forecasting.
Called TAMDAR (Tropospheric Airborne Meteorological Data Reporting), the project is investigating the possibility of installing equipment on GA aircraft that would send in-flight weather data to ground processing stations. As part of the project, a survey asks GA pilots which weather parameters would be most helpful.
"Better and more complete information on air mass characteristics can't help but produce better weather forecasts," declared AOPA Vice President of Air Traffic Services Melissa Bailey. "And in survey after survey, AOPA members name 'weather information' as one of their top concerns."
The research project is being conducted for NASA's Weather Accident Prevention Project by Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
