TFR exemption for pilots evacuating Martha’s Vineyard

As Tropical Storm Danny approaches the United States and predictions show the impact of the storm spanning the entire East Cost, pilots should consider whether to relocate their aircraft in advance of the storm.

To aid pilots in the Martha’s Vineyard area who are dealing with special security procedures because of the temporary flight restriction in place for President Barack Obama’s vacation, the FAA has issued an exemption.

The notam exempts pilots at Martha’s Vineyard (MVY) who will be relocating their aircraft from the waiver requirement of the presidential TFR. The exemption will be in effect from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. local on Friday, Aug. 28. Pilots will not need to request a waiver 72 hours in advance of departure, but they will need to submit to TSA screening. All other requirements from the presidential TFR remain in effect.

For more information, see the notam.
