Bound for the Bahamas

It was tough, but somebody had to do it—Editor at Large Tom Horne and Photographer Chris Rose gave up precious work time to join the Bahamas Tourism Office in a five-day swing through the islands with 30 other people in 12 airplanes. Horne and Rose flew a Beechcraft Bonanza A36 from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to Grand Bahama, Long, Cat, and Great Abaco islands to check out the fabulous amenities awaiting GA visitors there. From crystal-clear water and soft-as-silk sand beaches to gracious guest houses and great restaurants, Horne and Rose scoped out the islands for you—so when you take your flight there you can see how hard they worked. See the online video of their arduous assignment.

GA Serves America: The Accidental Aviator

Technical Editor Mike Collins brings both writing expertise and photography skills to his work with AOPA Pilot. In this month’s issue, he meets Erika Thompson, a young aviator who illustrates how general aviation serves America by supplying pilots to commercial operators. Thompson is now a first officer for ATI Jet in El Paso, Texas, after completing training with Airline Training Professional’s Airline Career Pilot Program in Phoenix. Collins researched Thompson’s story, wrote it for the magazine, photographed the accompanying pictures, and prepared this online video.

The Miramar Airshow

Senior Editor Al Marsh recently researched several stories in California for upcoming issues of AOPA Pilot and AOPA Flight Training magazines. Along the way he met up with interesting pilots and heard their stories. One pair he met were pilots Eddie Kisfaludy, an oceanographer, and his girlfriend Natasha Stenbock, who are featured in this month’s “ Pilot Briefing” section. Stenbock is a freelance television reporter and recently flew in—and produced a video of—the Miramar Airshow in California. Marsh brought the video home to our Maryland offices, and now you can view it on AOPA Pilot Online.
