Jeppesen offers online training

Jeppesen announced this week it is offering a private pilot training course in an online format. This is Jeppesen’s first foray into online pilot certificate training, although the company has offered computer-based training on avionics in the past.

The course was developed using information from Jeppesen’s popular private pilot textbook, said Kert Thielen, Jeppesen’s manager of aviation training services and aviation courseware development. Thielen said the course fully prepares students for the FAA knowledge test and provides detailed flight maneuver information in an animated format.

The company is offering three versions of the course—a Part 61 enhanced groundschool with maneuvers and knowledge test preparation, a Part 61 course with stage exams and flight lessons, and a Part 141 version with stage exams and flight lessons.

Each course tracks student progress through the individual lessons, which instructors have access to in order to review the student’s work.

Jeppesen said it expects to release online instrument and sport pilot courses in the future.
