Plane Power has received supplemental type certificate (STC) approval of its gear-driven generator to alternator conversion kit, the company said this week.
The new ER14-50 replaces the generator and generator regulator on many small Teledyne Continental engines. The kit comes with the alternator, Plane Power’s solid-state voltage regulator, and all the applicable hardware.
According to the company, the new ER14-50 replaces older generators with a new alternator that is lighter at less than seven pounds, has a higher output at a lower engine rpm, and offers better reliability. According to Steve Klodd, Plane Power general manager, “Our all new alternator kits are specifically designed for aircraft. Compared to antiquated generators Plane Power alternators run cooler, perform far more reliably, and supply increased power at or below typical cruise engine rpm. We are so confident in our alternators and voltage regulators, that Plane Power supports each one with a limited two-year warranty.”
Approved models include older Cessna 172s, 150s, 170s, and some Piper, Taylorcraft, Ercoupe, American Champion, and more.
