Currently there are more than 700 relevant federal aviation regulations with which pilots are required to comply. That’s a lot to remember, even for the most seasoned pilot. Violate one of these regulations and you’re putting your certificate on the line. AOPA’s Legal Services Plan invites you to “test your knowledge of FAA violations” by taking a short quiz online. Find out how simple things such as a change of address, or an application for registration could put you at risk. This short quiz highlights only a tiny portion of the numerous federal aviation regulations out there so no matter if you ace it or find it to be a struggle the AOPA Legal Services Plan is a must for any pilot. The plan provides you with access to more than 700 aviation panel attorneys who can assist you with everything from airspace incursions and other FAA violations to FAA medical certification matters. You can even have a panel attorney review your aircraft purchase or sales agreements. Visit the Web site to learn more about how the AOPA Legal Services Plan can help protect your certificate.
If you need to find an AME in your area, check out AOPA’s Aviation Medical Examiners Database. Just enter your city and state for local doctors, or enter a zip code to find AMEs within 25, 50, or 100 miles of your location. Approximately 5,500 aviation medical examiners are included in this database, which is updated quarterly, and includes not only address and phone numbers for the physicians, but also a field indicating whether the doctor is also a pilot. Access to this database is a free benefit of your AOPA membership. Need some help using it? Give the aviation technical specialists in the Pilot Information Center a call, 800-872-2672 (USA-AOPA).
Poor cockpit decisions cause far too many aircraft accidents—and the AOPA Air Safety Foundation is doing something about it. The foundation’s new interactive course, Do the Right Thing: Decision Making for Pilots , takes a common-sense approach to aeronautical decision making, focusing on easy ways to anticipate and recognize basic problems, and then take action to fix them. The course includes five interactive video scenarios that let you make choices for fictional pilots, see where those choices lead, and get feedback on how you did. It’s a fun, free way to improve your decision-making skills.
