Ryan Perez, a senior in aviation maintenance and technology management at Kansas State University’s Salina campus is one of only six students in the world this year to receive the Maintenance Technician Scholarship from Helicopter Foundation International.
The $2,500 scholarship is for students pursuing an airframe and powerplant certificate or the international equivalent. The scholarship is based on the student’s interest and determination in the helicopter industry, and it helps accommodate the industry’s need for aircraft maintenance technicians.
Founded in 1983, the Helicopter Foundation International is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich history and heritage of the helicopter and of the industry’s service to mankind, helping to educate both the present and future generations of helicopter professionals, and promoting the helicopter industry as an exciting and valuable career choice for young people.
The Kansas State at Salina campus is one of the fastest growing colleges within the Kansas State family and offers a well-rounded university experience shared by 1,000 degree-seeking students. With a fleet of 50 training aircraft, the college offers the following programs: professional pilot; aviation maintenance; glider training; transportation studies; helicopter training; and an aviation minor.
