Hawker Beechcraft Corp. (HBC) announced at AOPA Aviation Summit that its Bonanza and Baron line of piston singles and twins can now be equipped with an enhanced vision system (EVS).
EVS uses sensing in the infrared spectrum to let pilots see in nighttime and low-light conditions. This includes situations where fog or clouds obscure runway environments, and EVS can even let pilots see deer, airport vehicles, and personnel. HBC says that EVS can penetrate haze, fog, smoke, and precipitation eight to 10 times farther than the human eye in both day and night conditions. In flight, EVS shows clouds and ground features, and can even be used to avoid clouds or fly between cloud layers.
HBC will use Forward Vision’s EVS-100 and EVS-600 EVS systems. The systems will be made available as an option first on new Bonanzas, then Barons. They also can be retrofitted to older models at HBC service centers. The line replaceable units weigh just 1.5 pounds and mount like an external antenna.
