The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) has named David W. Robb as executive editor of AOPA Pilot magazine.

"With a circulation of more than 370,000, Pilot is a leading source of information for AOPA members and aviation leaders," said AOPA President Phil Boyer. "David has the experience to successfully lead the magazine as it continues to be an authority throughout the industry."

Robb, who reports to AOPA Pilot magazine Editor-in-Chief Thomas B. Haines, has been employed in magazine publishing for more than 20 years as a writer, editor, and publisher for a variety of companies including Ziff-Davis, Cahners, and Phillips.

For the past 14 years, he has worked in the aviation and aerospace markets. He was the editor and associate publisher of Avionics Magazine and was later employed by AerospaceOnline, a news and e-commerce Web site published by VerticalNet. Most recently, he was general manager of his family's AV-ED Flight School, Inc., one of the largest flight schools in the Mid-Atlantic area, based in Leesburg, Va.

Robb first learned to fly in sailplanes in the mid-1970s and is an experienced instrument-rated private pilot who has traveled extensively by general aviation aircraft.

The more-than-404,000-member Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has represented the interests of general aviation pilots since 1939. General aviation includes all flying except the scheduled airlines and the military. Nearly two-thirds of all U.S. pilots, and three-quarters of the GA pilots, are AOPA members.
