The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) announces that Erica Simpson has joined its staff as a director of legislative affairs in the Frederick-based association's Washington, D.C., office.
Simpson previously worked for Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.) as a legislative assistant, where she worked on issues related to homeland security and immigration as well as transportation, commerce, defense, and veterans, and foreign affairs.
Simpson will focus primarily on homeland security issues for AOPA.
A graduate of Syracuse University with a dual major in communications and political science, Simpson is originally from Montana and currently resides in Falls Church, Va.
The nearly 410,000-member Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association has represented the interests of general aviation pilots since 1939. General aviation includes all flying except the scheduled airlines and the military. Nearly two-thirds of all U.S. pilots, and three-quarters of the GA pilots, are AOPA members.
