New Jersey pilot is quarterly winner of ASF door prize

Juan Bellu of Toms River, N.J., is 2004's second-quarter winner of a Sporty's handheld transceiver, the door prize for attending an AOPA Air Safety Foundation seminar. ASF and Sporty's award one door prize each quarter.

Bellu's name was drawn from the approximately 6,000 people who attended ASF safety seminars during the quarter. He attended ASF's "GPS - Beyond Direct-To" seminar in Morristown, N.J. Information on when it and other ASF seminars will be coming to your area is available online.

"GPS - Beyond Direct-To" explores the many capabilities of today's GPS units that many pilots rarely master. It explains all about GPS virtues and vices, how to use your VFR GPS legally while flying on instruments, how to avoid GPS misdirection when air traffic controllers suddenly change your clearance and how ATC expects you to use GPS in the new airspace system, and shows how to avoid embarrassing yourself when your GPS fails.
