Apr. 27, 2004 - June 5 may sound a long way off, but it's only a few Saturdays away. So it's already a good time to begin planning your trip to the 14th annual AOPA Fly-In and Open House at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) in Frederick, Md. Arrival procedures are now available online. VFR pilots should especially be aware of the special transponder code for arriving traffic, and pilots arriving from the west and south need to pay attention to route instructions intended to keep them well clear of both P-40 (Camp David) and the Baltimore-Washington ADIZ.
Once you're safely parked, you'll find a wide variety of things to do. Tour AOPA's headquarters and talk to staff members one-on-one. Attend one of the dozen seminars on everything from safety to ownership to legal issues to hangar flying. Attend a Q&A session with AOPA President Phil Boyer. Visit the big top tent behind the headquarters building and browse through 100 vendor displays. Or wander among the nearly three dozen aircraft in the static display area at AOPA's ramp.
The AOPA Fly-In and Open House is free and open to all pilots and anyone interested in general aviation. Local vendors will have a variety of foods and drinks for sale.
"We're a membership organization," said Boyer. "We look forward to Fly-In every year, because it gives us a great opportunity to meet and greet the people who are why we're here."
