Power Flow recently announced its plans to develop a tuned exhaust system for the Beechcraft Bonanza. The system marks the first time Power Flow has developed an exhaust for a six-cylinder engine.
Once released, the company plans to offer supplemental type certificates (STCs) for the IO-470, IO-520, and IO-550 engines. According to Power Flow, initial tests indicate increased cruise speeds of up to seven knots are possible, with four knots guaranteed. This is despite a 10-pound weight penalty over the stock exhaust system. Fuel savings of up to 1.5 gallons per hour are possible, and rate of climb is also expected to improve up to 15 percent. Finally, the aircraft service ceiling should increase anywhere from 2,000 to 5,000 feet.
Up until April 30, 2010, Bonanza owners can make a deposit during the pre-production period and save anywhere from $715 to $1245 off the suggested retail price of $6,500.
The purchase includes a two-year, 500-hour warranty.
