FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt will talk about the state of general aviation and what pilots can expect in the coming year on Thursday, Nov. 5, at AOPA Aviation Summit. AOPA President Craig Fuller will discuss a range of GA issues with Babbitt and ask the questions you want answered.
Babbitt, who was confirmed as FAA administrator on May 21, has worked closely with GA associations on various issues. In the wake of the fatal midair collision between a fixed-wing aircraft and helicopter over the Hudson River in August, Babbitt formed a working group of all interested parties instead of immediately jumping to create federal regulations for the airspace. The FAA has since come out with a proposed rule that incorporates the aviation industry’s recommendations.
Regarding GA security, Babbitt has said that he plans to meet with the TSA administrator (once a person is confirmed) to discuss pilots’ concerns about the security measures the agency has enacted. President Barack Obama has nominated Erroll G. Southers to head the TSA, but he has yet to be confirmed.
