Olympic briefings to cover two-month TFR

A temporary flight restriction over the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and Paralympics will cover the area, including parts of Washington State, for nearly two months: from Jan. 29 to March 24. Learn how to operate through the airspace and avoid an enforcement action at FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) briefings in Washington.

To fly within the TFR, pilots will have to comply with extensive requirements. Fringe airports at the southern edge of the TFR will have special procedures and transponder codes to allow increased access. The FAASTeam is scheduling airspace symposiums and briefings around the Washington State area to explain operating procedures and allow pilots to have their questions answered by the organizations that developed the TFR.

Symposiums with briefings by Nav Canada, FAA Airspace Security, NORAD, and Flight Service will take place on Nov. 10 and Dec. 3 in Seattle at the Museum of Flight theater from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and on Dec. 2 in Bellingham at the Western Washington University Academic Instruction Center, room 204, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. These three symposiums will have representatives from Seattle Center, Seattle Approach Control, Whidbey Island Approach Control, and Customs and Border Protection there to answer any specific questions pertaining to their area of expertise.

Local briefings by the FAASTeam will take place throughout November. Check the Web site for addresses and speakers.
