Lindbergh Foundation hosts auction

In an effort to support its grants program for environmental and technology research, the Lindbergh Foundation has opened an online auction that includes a live segment during Sun ’n Fun.

The grants are in amounts up to $10,580, the amount required in 1927 to build the Spirit of St. Louis. The auction will also support the foundation’s awards and education programs. The public can enter the auction online by sending a PDF of the bid via e-mail. All online bids must be received by 4 p.m. Central time on Tuesday, April 13.

The 2010 Lindbergh Award Celebration at Sun ‘n Fun on April 14 will include a reception, live auction, and dinner along with presentations by Cessna CEO Jack Pelton, Michael L. Ducker, chief operating officer of FedEx Express, and John and Martha King. The live auction will include the highest bids from those entered online; they will be noted as absentee bids.

Items included in the auction are Forward Vision’s enhanced vision system, a 10-day African safari for four, a day at King Schools and dinner with John and Martha King, an aerobatic flight with Sean D. Tucker, a ride with Fantasy of Flight director Kermit Weeks in his P-51, a bronze sculpture by Erik Lindbergh, and a Garmin Nuvi 1490T (the newest model).
