This Weekend

Places to go, people to see, stuff to...eat!

Sometimes you just have to get out of the local traffic pattern. So make your next trip an adventure and use the airplane for a fun trip to an airport close to you, either by yourself for a confidence-building solo, or with an instructor as a great cross-country training adventure.

PA88

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort, Farmington, Pennsylvania

How does landing on a private runway and being picked up by a limo sound? Add a chateau suite, your jumping-off point for off-road adventures, skeet shooting, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Try Nemacolin Woodlands Resort and Spa, a most unusual resort.

SAV

Savannah/Hilton head International Airport, Savannah, Georgia

Fly in to Savannah/Hilton Head International and visit the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum. The museum is considered one of the best on the East Coast. It showcases the history of the 8th Air Force, the bombing and fighter group that operated over Europe during World War II.

18Y

Milaca Municipal Airport, Milaca, Minnesota

How do you make a fly-in pancake breakfast even better? Start it the day before and bring people in to camp. At Milaca Municipal Airport in Minnesota, the fly-in starts August 7 with a potluck and ends August 8 with a pancake breakfast. The grass runway is a comfortable 5,000 feet.

PAN

Payson Airport, Payson, Arizona

Every year on the third weekend in August the people of Payson put on the oldest continuously operated rodeo in the world. The rodeo is a sanctioned event, and is considered one of the country’s best small rodeos. Payson is a full-service airport with a great campground as well.

CYS

Cheyenne Regional/Jerry Olson Field, Cheyenne, Wyoming

Cheyenne Regional Airport’s Cloud Nine Restaurant is a good reason to fly. The prime rib has been called the best within 100 miles, and the view makes the experience even better. The large windows in the terminal allow for uninterrupted airplane spotting.
