Grand Bahama student wins trip to Aviation Summit
Pilots at AOPA Aviation Summit in Long Beach, Calif., can learn about The Bahamas from St. George’s High School student Khalia Carnegie, an eleventh grader from Freeport, Grand Bahama.
Carnegie won a trip to Summit after entering a video contest and filming a one-minute presentation of “Why should I be selected to represent The Bahamas to private pilots at the AOPA Summit trade show.”
The contest was organized by the Bahamas Tourist Office, Plantation, and coordinated by representatives from the Ministry of Tourism.
Each year at AOPA Aviation Summit, The Bahamas tourism office has an exhibit with aircraft chocks among information for flying to the islands. Last year, a group of students attended the convention in Tampa, Fla., to show off chocks that they had designed in an art contest. Each chock featured something about the islands.
Students who won the chocks program will get to attend Sun ’n Fun in March at Lakeland, Fla.
