Air Transport Association taps new chief

The Air Transport Association (ATA) named Nick Calio as its new president and CEO Nov. 29. Calio replaces Jim May, who led the airline trade association for eight years.

“On behalf of AOPA, I welcome Nick Calio to the aviation community,” said AOPA President Craig Fuller. “I have known Nick for many years and am certain his high integrity and experience combined with his ability will ensure that he makes many important contributions to the policy questions before us. Most of all, I look forward to working together in the belief that there are far more issues on which we agree than disagree.”

Calio has worked for Citigroup for eight years and heads Global Government Affairs for Citigroup in the United States and more than 100 countries worldwide. Previously, Calio served as the assistant to the president for legislative affairs and the chief liaison to Congress for George W. Bush and George H. W. Bush.

Calio will officially take the helm of the organization Jan. 1, 2011.
