Fly in to Bowman Field September 24 through 26 for the unique Bluegrass Balloon Festival. The festival features more than 70 hot air balloons, flyovers featuring Army helicopters, bluegrass music, and more. Check for notams, and remember that balloons like to fly early and late in the day.
What’s better than a runway with a nice hotel and restaurant? The Beaumont Hotel in Beaumont, Kansas, ups the ante by allowing pilots to fly in, taxi up to the hotel, and park right out front. Imagine the coziness of a hotel room with a view of your airplane. Sounds like pilot heaven.
For one week in September the Biggest Little City in the World also becomes host to one of the fastest events in the world, the National Championship Air Races, held September 15 through 19. The races feature the world’s fastest propeller-driven aircraft, some jets, and an airshow.
Free breakfast and free admission await pilots who fly into the Ontario Air Faire on Saturday, September 11. The Air Faire features a half-dozen aerobatic routines, a car show, bands, warbirds on display, and vendors selling all sorts of fun things. That's a great deal for free.
