AOPA launches series of holiday ornaments

Snow-covered roofs and trimming the tree may be the last things on your mind right now, but at AOPA we’re thinking ahead to the winter holiday season and the first edition release of AOPA collector’s holiday ornaments.

AOPA 2010 limited-edition holiday ornamentAOPA is launching a series of limited-edition holiday ornaments that will become treasured family keepsakes. For the first year’s ornament, the 1939 Electra has been selected. Known by many as the aircraft that Amelia Earhart flew on her infamous last journey, the Electra is a twin-engine, all-metal monoplane developed by Lockheed. It was a popular aircraft in 1939, the same year AOPA was founded.

Measuring two and one-half inches high and three inches wide, the AOPA Holiday Ornament is made of stamped metal and has a three-dimensional effect. In addition to the Electra, AOPA wings help members show off their status as pilots. Written below the airplane is AOPA’s slogan from its seventieth anniversary—“A legacy to be proud of and a future of excellence.”

AOPA’s 2010 Holiday Ornament is available for $24.99 and may be purchased at the AOPA Store online. As with all AOPA merchandise, the proceeds from the sale of the holiday ornament go toward protecting and championing general aviation.

ANSWERS FOR PILOTS

As the calendar rolls into September, colleges across the country commence fall classes and students turn their attention to their studies. For pilots, basic and advanced flight training and proficiency flights traverse the academic calendar, but if you are looking for career opportunities in the aviation industry, there are a variety of opportunities to add an aviation degree to your list of qualifications. AOPA offers a guide to aviation colleges and universities, which includes overview information, a link to AOPA’s aviation college database, information on aviation scholarships, as well as helpful tips for choosing a program that would be tailored to your needs. Read more online about college aviation programs in this month’s online Answers for Pilots.
