Midwest LSA Expo set for Sept. 9 through 11

The third annual Midwest LSA Expo will be held Sept. 9 through Sept. 11 at Mount Vernon Outland Airport in Mount Vernon, Ill. This year’s event will feature more than 40 light sport aircraft on a static display and an expanded array of seminars, according to organizer Chris Collins.

This year’s selection of aircraft includes representatives from Allegro, American Legend, Breezer, Bushwacker, Corbi (Alto), CT Sales, Cubcrafters, Jabiru, Remos, and Sportair (iCub and Savage). New to the show this year are Soar Free (Pipistrel) and Thunderbird Aviation, of Ray, Mich., which manufactures kits for SNS-8 and SNS-9 hiperlight aircraft. A notable feature of the Midwest LSA Expo is that interested buyers can take demo flights right at the show, Collins said. A complete list of exhibitors and seminars is available on the website.

Guest speakers include Capt. Denis Murphy, who has survived two ditchings in the Caribbean; Dan Johnson, who will discuss the state of the LSA marketplace; and FAA FAASTeam member George Ballard, who will examine accident trends in light sport aircraft. As the final day of the show coincides with the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, U.S. Air Force Col. Matt Swanson will talk about the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon.

Collins reminds fly-in visitors that there are numerous motels and hotels within a free shuttle-bus ride of the airport; camping at the airport is available at no extra charge, and there are shower facilities within the airport’s newest corporate hangar.
