Soon you’ll trade going around the pattern for going someplace new.
There comes a time in every student pilot’s training when he or she questions whether there really is any airspace outside the traffic pattern. Rest assured, it is only a phase—one that soon will be followed by dual cross-countries, then solo cross-countries, then the checkride. After that, the sky is the limit (pun intended). If you choose, every flight can be a destination event, whether it covers two counties or two time zones (the latter, by the way, is why we use Coordinated Universal Time, better known as Zulu time, in our flying). Whether you stick with your training airplane or eventually move up to something speedier, like this Diamond, how far you fly is a decision that will be driven largely by travel needs—and by your imagination.
