Two on his 16

New pilot solos on his sixteenth birthday in two separate aircraft

Dustin Wolfe passed his first milestone toward his dream of becoming a pilot when he soloed not one but two airplanes on his sixteenth birthday. Family and friends gathered at the Frederick, Kansas, airport to watch his first solo landings. His instructor, Lawrence Latimer of Vernon, flew around the pattern with Dustin before taxiing back and sending him out solo in a Cessna 150. The next airplane was a Cessna 182 that belongs to Dustin’s grandfather, Donnie Coleman. Dustin is a sophomore at Frederick High School. He is also active in the Boy Scouts of America and close to becoming an Eagle Scout. This fall, he joined the Civil Air Patrol’s Rio del Fierro squadron in Wichita Falls.
