MD Helicopters close to big contract

MD Helicopters (MDH) of Mesa, Ariz., is in the final stages of negotiating a contract with The Boeing Company to collaborate on the production of the Boeing AH-6i light attack and reconnaissance helicopter. The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding in mid-2010.

The contract could total 200 aircraft over four years. MDH would build most of the airframe. The AH-6i international helicopter is the latest version of the combat-proven AH-6M helicopter flown by U.S. Army Special Operations forces.

“We look forward to a long-term and mutually beneficial partnership with Boeing to build a state-of-the-art aircraft on American soil, with an American workforce,” said Lynn Tilton, chairman and CEO of MD Helicopters.

MDH’s product line includes MD 500-series helicopters, the MD 600N, and the MD Explorer. The company says its helicopters are known for their speed, strength, and ability to fly “hot and high.”
