SocialFlight software update draws a crowd

Release of version 2.0 prompted more than 2,000 downloads on the first day, according to SocialFlight developer Where2 Interactive, noting that more than 10,000 users have downloaded the free application designed to build pilot communities in its first four months.

The first release, which allowed users to announce and search for aviation events and destinations (airshows, fly-ins, safety seminars, and pancake breakfasts, among other events), has been expanded into a social networking tool: SocialFlight 2.0 adds features designed to help connect pilots, enabling users to chat, share photos, and organize itineraries.

“We set out to create a free, universal tool that could show pilots all of the opportunities awaiting them on their next flying adventure,” said Jason Clemens, one of SocialFlight’s founders. “With SocialFlight 2.0, we’re taking the entire flying community to the next level by making it simple to find other pilots with common interests or aircraft, chat, share photos and organize attendance to the thousands of events in our database.”
