ForeFlight has had a busy July. The iPad application maker expanded its licensing program for educational purposes, added storm tracks on the radar display, earned a rare certification that allows it to be listed as a weather source for Part 135 and 121 users, and improved and added a host of new features in its latest version 4.6.
Among the many changes in version 4.6, CEO Tyson Weihs said he is most excited about a feature they’re calling Advisors. There is one in place for routing, procedures, and altitude. Each suggests a course of action for the pilot. With routing, the application will suggest certain routes based on what the pilot inputs, including appropriate airways, terminal en route routes, or preferred routes. There’s also a bigger selection of previously assigned and flown routes available for selection.
The procedure and altitude advisory work much the same way, suggesting SIDs, STARs, and the best altitude based on direction of flight.
Other new features include a route editor that enables drag-and-drop waypoints, better and faster search, a Stratus firmware update, and more.
