Volunteer to take part in Parade of Planes

parade of planes

Balloons, roses, and airplanes: features of some of the most talked about parades in the United States—the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade, and AOPA’s Parade of Planes. (OK, the Parade of Planes might not be as well known, but it is certainly recognized in the general aviation community.)

The Parade of Planes returns this year during AOPA Aviation Summit in Palm Springs, Calif., Oct. 11 through 13. Just like the Macy’s and Tournament of Roses parades need volunteers, so does the Parade of Planes. It’s not every day a pilot can help provide guidance for a piston single or light jet taxiing around trees, light posts, and mailboxes down a street. Volunteers can register now to help anytime Oct. 9 through 14.

In addition to assisting with the Parade of Planes, volunteers can help park more than 1,000 arriving attendee aircraft, provide information at a hospitality tent, and direct ground transportation and the flow of people and vehicles.

Volunteers who work a minimum of five hours will receive an AOPA Aviation Summit “Exhibits and Seminars” one-day pass (a $55 value). Volunteers should receive their assignment by early September; after that, the volunteer pass can be used during online or on-site registration. Sign up to become a volunteer today.
