Jeppesen releases big update to iPad application

Jeppesen Mobile Flight DeckMobile FlightDeck, Jeppesen’s chart and route planning iPad application, has a host of new features, including planning through “rubber banding.” Other changes include waypoint distance calculation from current location, a GPS receiver strength screen, and a screen lock that keeps users from inadvertently making a selection at the wrong time.

The changes are all part of Jeppesen’s app upgrade strategy over the next 18 months or so. Integrated weather, document management, airport moving maps, and other features will be added on a rolling basis, said David Wright, Jeppesen’s director of general aviation client management. Recognizing the increasing shift to a digital world, Wright stressed Jeppesen’s place in the market. “The core value of Jeppesen is data,” he said.

Hoping to further capitalize on the data, and give customers a better user experience, the company will launch a new website on April 17. Called MyJeppesen, the site will cater to the company’s 100,000 global GA customers, and ideally appeal to new ones, said Wright. It will have free Jeppesen weather, allow users to get at their subscriptions or access technical support, and see what’s new with the company.
