This week, I’m taking a look at radar apps, since so many of you sent in some great ones. These are not endorsements of any app.
- My Radar Weather Radar (Free)—Several members sang the praises of this app, which displays animated weather radar at your current location. It also offers weather alerts and warnings and offers push notification. It’s available on Android.
- Plane Finder ($2.99)—This app uses Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) feeds to transmit the name position, call sign, status, and other information for commercial and private aircraft. It’s available on Android.
- FlightRadar24 Pro ($2.99)—Your smartphone becomes an air traffic control radar display with this app. Features include an augmented reality view; search by specific flight; and filter by airline, altitude, and speed. It’s available on Android.
- FlightAware (Free)—This oldie but goodie has an app for every platform. With it, you can track flights by tail number, route, or flight number. You can look up airport information and check out delays at larger ones.
- Flight View (Free)—A handy app that offers in-air flight tracking, radar weather, and the ability to coordinate all travel information. It’s available on Android.
If you have any iPad/iPhone/Android apps you think I should review in the upcoming months, please pass them along to me here. And thanks to you all for the kind notes!
