With HondaJet aiming for certification in 2013, Honda Aircraft Co. is getting the house ready for the new arrival. The company announced Sept. 27 a groundbreaking for the award-winning design’s maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility being built at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, N.C., where the company is based.
The $20 million, 90,000-square-foot facility will bring the company’s local infrastructure investment to more than $120 million overall, and expand to more than 130 acres a corporate campus that also includes headquarters, research and development, and production facilities. The MRO facility will be able to accommodate up to 12 aircraft, the company announced, and include a 4,000-square-foot, climate-controlled parts warehouse.
Pilots will have comforts of their own: a large pilot’s lounge, individual work rooms and a conference room, and a flight planning room situated for easy ramp access.
