General aviation newspaper Pacific Flyer has announced it is shutting down after more than 32 years of publishing.
Pacific Flyer evolved from an eight-page giveaway in San Diego to an international aviation newspaper. The newspaper’s true calling was representing aviators and their interests, according to its website.
“We report directly to them every month, with news, features, cartoons, humor, essays, pretty girls, columns, test flights, and coverage of major airshows from El Centro to Moscow, from Salinas to Paris to Oshkosh,” according to the website. “We are also strong supporters of military aviation and we have a decidedly different view of our favorite avocation—airplanes and the people who fly them.”
Wayman Dunlap, the newspaper’s editor and publisher, said on the company’s website the reasons for the closing were “many and complex” and irreversible. “Our subscribers will be taken over by our friends at General Aviation News in Tacoma, Wash., and what little money is left in the troop subscription fund will be donated to the Wounded Warriors at Camp Pendleton,” he said. The newspaper’s last issue was March/April 2013.
