Bendix/King announced July 29 a new Mode S transponder that complies with the FAA’s 2020 Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out mandate. The KT 74, unveiled at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., is compliant with all 1090 ADS-B Out mandates when coupled to an appropriate GPS source, and will enable airplanes to transmit location, altitude, and other information to nearby aircraft and air traffic control.
The unit can serve as a slide-in, “plug and play” replacement for the KT 76A/C and KT 78A.
The KT 74 will be compatible with Bendix/King’s KTN 770 WAAS GPS, as well as Garmin’s WAAS GNS, FreeFlight Systems 1201, and Accord Technology’s NexNav Mini. “Others will be coming,” said Roger Jollis, Bendix/King vice president of marketing. The unit can be installed now and upgraded later as the mandate takes effect, he said.
The KT 74 has a suggested retail price of $2,999, which includes a two-year warranty. It qualifies for Bendix/King’s Trade Up Program, in which customers can purchase new equipment and receive trade-in value for certain existing equipment.
