Decommissioning proposed for Utica Vortac/RCO

The FAA has proposed to decommission the Utica Vortac and remote communications outlet (RCO) located in Frankfort, N.Y.

Members are encouraged to submit comments to the FAA on the impact of this proposal on their flight operations as provided below. The navaid was identified for decommissioning, the FAA said, because of the cost of extensive work needed for the navaid to adhere to proper standards; because the vortac is not part of the planned Minimum Operational Network; and because policy now requires that decommissioning must be evaluated for all VOR facilities prior to upgrading or performing major repairs. The navaid’s DME and RCO services would be evaluated and retained if necessary.

Pilots may submit comments to FAA on the decommissioning proposal by March 22. Send comments to Federal Aviation Administration, Eastern Service Center, Operations Support Group (AJV-E2), Non Rule Case No. 13-AEA-102-NR, P.O. Box 20636, Atlanta, Ga., 30320.

Please also share your comments with AOPA.
