FAA finalizes airway changes in MississippiFAA finalizes airway changes in Mississippi

The FAA has issued a final rule that modifies seven Victor airways and two jet routes in conjunction with the decommissioning of a vortac in Jackson, Miss., and concurrent commissioning of the Magnolia Vortac at Bruce Campbell Field Airport in Madison, Miss.

The FAA solicited comments from pilots, and AOPA encouraged members to weigh in while providing the association’s own comments on the proposal issued in February. Careful study revealed there will be minimal impacts on operations: Because the navaid to be decommissioned is being replaced, the airway segments eliminated are redundant, and saw limited use when active; there are no changes to available altitudes, and only minor differences in route leg lengths will result.

The final rule takes effect Aug. 22.

AOPA monitors airspace actions and rule changes nationwide, working with members and the aviation community to identify and communicate to the FAA impacts on aircraft operations when applicable.
