Ten pilots successfully flew into 48 participating airports in the 2013 Kentucky Airport Challenge. The challenge is a statewide effort designed to get pilots flying and was created, sponsored, and hosted by Tompkinsville Aviation/Missionaire, a fixed-base operator based at Tompkinsville/Monroe County Airport.
Seventy-seven Kentucky pilots signed up to fly to 48 participating airports between July 1 and Sept. 30. Airports handed out passports, and each facility offered an official stamp for challenge participants.
Tompkinsville Aviation hosted a fly-in on Oct. 5 to serve lunch and do prize drawings for challenge participants. The grand prize, sponsored by Stantec Airports Engineers, was an iPad with a subscription to AOPA’s FlyQ EFB electronic flight bag. The winners, AOPA members Robert and Vickie Jost of Murray, Ky., donated the iPad to the high school student pilots at Missionaire.
