SocialFlight, a general aviation events aggregator and calendar app, has launched a new initiative that provides support for online activities, including live seminars, classes, and simulcast events, allowing pilots and aviation enthusiasts around the world to participate. The company has also formed a partnership with IMC Club to host the organization's online event calendar.

Founder and President Jeff Simon, speaking at an AOPA Aviation Summit press conference, noted that organizations have had trouble hosting live webinars in the past because it’s difficult to reach the GA community all at once.

"The SocialFlight community has grown to the point where it is no longer simply listing aviation events; it is actually creating more of them. This is solely due to the fact that SocialFlight makes it so easy to host a new event and communicate it to the aviation world.” said Simon. “With the addition of online events, we can now offer our users the ability to take part in aviation events that transcend geography. Our hope is that SocialFlight will promote the creation of more live, online opportunities to learn and grow as pilots and aviation enthusiasts, just as it has done for traditional events.”

The first to join SocialFlight’s new online events is Puyallup, Wash.-based Spencer Aircraft. Duane Wetherbee, director of operations and sales at Spencer Aircraft, said that this new program helps his company get more people to take its upcoming online courses.

The first online event will be the one-hour seminar "Fabric Covering Today" on Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. Pacific time, presented by Poly Fiber and sponsored by Spencer Aircraft. On Feb. 2, Spencer Aircraft is sponsoring another seminar, "Mountain Flying in the Pacific Northwest," from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pacific time. The presenter will be Shawn Pratt from Safety in Motion (SIM) Flight Center.

IMC Club board member Jon Roberts said he saw a natural partnership with SocialFlight. “We thought if we could be part of their calendar, it would be a great fit,” he said. “We're two years into our organization and hope to triple our membership in five to six years, and SocialFlight can help with that.” Simon added that the agreement was signed at 38,000 feet during a JetBlue flight to AOPA Aviation Summit.
