Treasure hunt, rebates among Sun 'n Fun deals

Bonus gifts with headsets, rebates for GPS units, and an on-site treasure hunt are among the special offers from sellers during the 2014 Sun ‘n Fun International Fly-in and Expo.

On March 31, almost 500 exhibitors were setting up on the 2,200-acre show grounds in Lakeland, Fla. Several advertised specials in advance of the fly-in, some available only to attendees and others for anyone living vicariously.

Visitors at the Aircraft Spruce and Specialty Co. booth in Hangar B can take advantage of several promotions, including rebates of $50 to $100 on Garmin aera GPS units and reduced show pricing for the Bad Elf GPS for iPhones and iPads. The company, an AOPA Strategic Partner, also is offering discounts on Goodyear tires and a MasterCard reward card with the purchase of Michelin products.

Pilots don’t need to be on site to take advantage of offers from headset manufacturers Bose, Sennheiser, and Lightspeed Aviation. Bose is offering free Companion 2 Series III speakers with the purchase of an A20 headset through April 19. Rebates on Sennheiser headsets are good through April 30. And Lightspeed customers who purchase new active noise reduction headsets from an authorized U.S. dealer by May 26 are eligible for a mail-in rebate of up to $50. Valid rebate requests postmarked by June 10 will enter the buyer to win a VIP package to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., including transportation, lodging, amenities, and more.

Lightspeed also is offering a chance to win a new Zulu.2 headset to ambitious treasure hunters at Sun ‘n Fun. The headset manufacturer’s Sun 'n Fun Treasure Hunt challenges attendees to use coordinates posted on the Lightspeed website and available at the Lightspeed booth in Hangar D to find 25 puzzle pieces inside treasure chests hidden on the Sun ‘n Fun grounds. Using handheld GPS units or smartphones and hints to locate the chests, participants who find a piece must take it to the Lightspeed booth for a one in 25 chance to win the drawing.

Scheme Designers is hosting a scavenger hunt around the Sun 'n Fun display area. Look for aircraft with Scheme Designers livery and a window sign that says it is part of the hunt. Participants who find the most aircraft with the Scheme Designers logo and window sign will win a cap, polo shirt, or premium desktop model. Learn more about the rules and pick up the scavenger hunt form at Scheme Designers' booth (A-017); return your card by 4 p.m. on April 5. (Here's a hint to AOPA members: Check the AOPA Sweepstakes Debonair.)

Sporty’s Pilot Shop, which will be located in a new, outdoor space, said it will offer specials for Sun ‘n Fun, although it did not release details in advance of the show.

Homebuilders may swing by the Superior Air Parts booth (LD-002) to enter a daily drawing to win free tuition to Superior’s XP-Engine Build School. Winners will have the option to select a certificate good for a $1,000 rebate off the price of four Superior Millennium Cylinders purchased through an authorized Millennium Cylinder distributor instead.

AOPA members may stop by the AOPA tent (NE-053 to NE-062, AC-005 to AC-007) to pick up a free AOPA seventy-fifth anniversary commemorative lapel pin and AeroShell Aerobatic Team poster. And of course, AOPA members are automatically entered to win the association’s sweepstakes Debonair, which arrived at the Sun ‘n Fun grounds March 31 after an engine conversion. The Debonair is on display in front of the AOPA Activity Tent.

This is just a sampling of the deals and special offers available at Sun ‘n Fun. Attendees can browse more show specials on page 41 of the April 1 Sun ‘n Fun Today. You can tip off your fellow pilots to other deals in the comments below.
