A&P tries flying

He finds he likes it

Name: Dave Christian
Age: 54
Event: Private pilot checkride
Where: Paine Field (PAE), Everett, Washington

After 27 months, four instructors, two flight physicals, and 21 days left on my knowledge test, June 9, 2014, I passed my checkride with Regal Air at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, to receive my private pilot certificate.

As an airframe and powerplant mechanic for 32 years, I thought it was about time I would try to fly these aerospace vehicles.

Thanks to all the good people at Regal Air: You can teach an old dog a new trick.

What a feeling

The time was right

Name: Paul Ponschke
Age: 48
Event: Solo
Where: Shannon Airport (EZF), Fredericksburg, Virginia
Airplane: Cessna 172

Success storiesThe time was right. My journey began last October when I started my flying lessons on weekends only, due to that four-letter word “work.” My childhood dream of one day flying an airplane all by my lonesome came true today. At the mere age of 48, I finally soloed, and it was amazing. A big thanks to JLS Aviation at Shannon Airport in Fredericksburg, Virginia, and my instructor, Bruce Lichtman, for helping me get this far. I look forward to learning much, much more and eventually getting my certificate.
