Sporty's new takeoff app offers curated pilot content

A new app from Sporty’s aims to provide a regular dose of aviation content on a variety of topics.

The Takeoff app offers a curated selection of video tips, blog posts, podcasts, photos, and aviation news.

“Takeoff is a different kind of app for Sporty’s,” Vice President John Zimmerman said May 10. “Unlike many training apps that focus on passing a test, Takeoff is intended to provide a variety of information for pilots of all levels.” Each snippet is “just the right length for on-the-go pilots,” he said.

The app also will include content from other pilot organizations and instructors—another first for Sporty’s. Outside sources will include the AOPA Air Safety Institute; Jason Miller, who produces The Finer Points of Flying podcast and training videos; and “YouTube stars,” according to Sporty’s.

The app is free to download from the App Store and works on iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. An upgraded Takeoff Pro version has no advertisements and unlocks exclusive content from Jason Miller and meteorologist Scott Dimmich, among others. The Takeoff Pro subscription is $9.99 per month.
