Caitlyn Jenner

Olympic gold medalist

Who: Caitlyn Jenner
Occupation: Decathlon gold medalist; executive producer (television)
Hours: 4,000-plus
Certificates and ratings: Private, single- and multiengine land, instrument

Extra: Jenner says being transgender doesn’t create many problems for her in aviation. “Actually, I take more heat for being a Republican,” she says.

Bruce Jenner became an Olympic icon in 1976 when he won the gold medal in the men’s decathlon in the Summer Olympics, setting a record in the process. The athlete began flight training that same year in a Cessna 152 at the Santa Monica (California) Municipal Airport. He later purchased several aircraft, including a Pitts aerobatic airplane and a Mitsubishi MU–2 turboprop, and owned an aircraft brokerage firm in Columbia, South Carolina, for 25 years. In 2015, Jenner came out as transgender, adopting the name Caitlyn Jenner. After 15 years of not being current, she recently purchased a 1978 Beechcraft Bonanza V35B with a customized glass cockpit. “This new panel makes it feel like learning to fly all over again,” she said. “I’m back!”
