Yingling Aviation in Wichita, Kansas, has transformed AOPA’s Sweepstakes 172 from spinner to tail. The airplane has a new 180-hp Lycoming and new starter, alternator, vacuum pump, and voltage regulator; new propeller and brightly polished spinner; new flight instruments, including a Garmin G5 electronic attitude indicator and an angle of attack indicator; and a Garmin 650 GPS nav/com with moving map.
Then there are the performance enhancements: an electronic ignition system that reduces fuel burn, and vortex generators that reduce takeoff and stall speeds while improving controllability.
As beautiful on the outside as on the inside, the Sweepstakes 172 has a sleek new paint job, leather upholstery, airbag seatbelts for the front seats, and brand-new glass.
The airplane comes with an iPad mini that can be mounted to the panel in its own dock.
The AOPA Sweepstakes 172 will be given away in 2017. Are you in the running for this great airplane? AOPA members are automatically entered to win. Entrants must have an FAA pilot certificate (including student pilot certificates) as of May 31 to win, but a current medical certificate is not required. See the website for more information and all the latest updates on the AOPA 172 Sweepstakes.
