Plane Spotter
AOPA
That Cozy feeling
General aviation pilots tend to become extremely attached to their aircraft, and that goes double for owners who build what they fly. One subset of the builder-pilot population favors a VFR- and IFR-capable aircraft that's speedy, slick, and sports a canard and pusher prop. A plane spotter who spies such an airplane with two rows of side-by-side seating parked on the ramp with nosewheel retracted in "grazing" stance has likely encountered a Cozy Mark IV. Several hundred have been built since the aircraft emerged in the 1990s.
Final Exam
Question

I need to stretch my flying dollars to earn my private pilot certificate. Can I apply the 2.5 hours of permitted simulator use toward the three hours of instrument reference training needed in the airplane?
Answer
No. The 2.5 hours of simulator time can be credited toward the 40 hours of total time, and toward the flight training time required for the private pilot certificate. However, it cannot be used toward the three hours of instrument training time required by 14 CFR 61.109(a)(3), which must be flown in the airplane.

Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
