Epic achievement
Plane spotters who like to plan ahead can expect to add a new model to their list of spotted species in 2019 if Epic Aircraft of Bend, Oregon, stays on schedule for achieving certification of its E1000 single-engine turboprop. The six-place, 1,200-horsepower, low-wing airplane can take off at a maximum weight of 8,000 pounds, climb to Flight Level 340, and cruise at 325 knots true airspeed—or at a sprightly 265 KTAS for economy. Experimental kit-built Epics are already flying, and the company hopes to deliver 12 certified airplanes next year.
