Question of the Week
Question

I just got back from a flight in which air traffic control and I had a misunderstanding that I believe might lead to a violation. I remember my instructor talking about a NASA form. My understanding is that it cancels out a violation if you file it. Is this true? Where can I find more information?
Answer
Filing a NASA report doesn't make a violation disappear, though filing one could cause the FAA to waive the penalty in an enforcement action. For more information, you can read this AOPA Online article, review this FAA advisory circular, or visit the NASA Aviation Safety Reporting System website.
