Making the jump
The engine starts, a propeller moves the aircraft forward, and the free rotor mounted above the fuselage begins to spin. The rotor's motion adds lift, and the gyrocopter—or gyroplane or autogyro if you prefer—becomes airborne. Numerous designs have emerged since the first autogyro flew in 1923, notably using either a tractor propeller or a pusher prop, like the 1960s-vintage Air & Space 18A. Powered by a 180-horsepower engine, the 18A is a "jump-start gyro," meaning the engine can be coupled to the rotor for quick takeoffs.

Question

My instructor told me that I should never land at a military airport, except for an emergency landing. Is it OK in such a situation?
Answer
Yes. Don't rule out a military airport in an emergency. If it is your best option, take it. During non-emergency situations, you can land at a military airport only if you are on official government or military business and have approval from the base commander.
