Honorable service
Between its first flight in 1954 and its retirement in 2003, the Douglas A–4 Skyhawk served as an advanced trainer and carrier-based fighter for U.S. Navy and Marine Corps pilots, and for more than a decade performed with the Blue Angels. Distinctive for their narrow delta wing and compact size, approximately 3,000 A–4s were built. An A–4 on display in the National Naval Aviation Museum appears as did a fighter flown by Lt. Commander John McCain, the future U.S. senator from Arizona and presidential candidate, who died on Aug. 25, 2018.

Question

I am a private pilot with a single-engine, land rating and no complex or high-performance endorsements. I fly with a buddy who owns a Beechcraft A36 Bonanza. Can I log pilot-in-command time when I fly that airplane?
Answer
Yes. Complex and high-performance endorsements are only required to act as PIC in those aircraft; logging time is different. Because you have a single-engine, land rating and are flying a single-engine, land airplane, as long as you are sole manipulator of the flight controls, you may log that time as PIC.

Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
