Plane Spotter
AOPA
The eternal trainer
Rare is the plane spotter whose list of spotted aircraft doesn't contain an example of the ubiquitous Cessna 150—"ubiquitous" isn't part of its name, but it should be. So let's make the game more challenging by requiring a complete spotting record of the 100-horsepower high-wing two-seater that has turned out new pilots since 1959 to include various iterations such as the Standard, Trainer, and Commuter (look for wheel fairings), with bonus points awarded for spotting a Patroller. Swept tails and a rear window help identify 1960s-era innovations.

Question

Is it correct that a multiengine instructor must have five hours of flight time in every multiengine airplane in which he or she teaches?
Answer
According to 14 CFR 61.195(f), an instructor must have five hours of pilot-in-command time in each multiengine airplane make and model in which he or she gives flight training toward a certificate or rating. For any other type of training provided, such as checkouts or flight reviews, that requirement does not exist.

This question and answer were provided by the aviation experts in AOPA's Pilot Information Center. Did you know that student pilots who join AOPA are three times more likely to complete their flight training? Membership includes unlimited access to aviation information by phone (800-USA-AOPA, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern time) or from AOPA Online.
