Question of the Week
|
Question
I am a recreational pilot and aircraft owner. I've heard that doing preventive maintenance might help reduce my maintenance costs. Can recreational pilots perform preventive maintenance? |
Answer |
Recreational pilots can perform preventive maintenance as long as they own or operate the aircraft in question, and the aircraft isn't being used under Part 121, 129, or 135 (see 14 CFR 43.3 (g)). However, returning the aircraft to service requires at least a private pilot certificate. You would be required to get an authorized person to approve the work. For more information, see this FAA letter of interpretation.
